Be amazed and enthralled by the magic of circus, with a watery twist. SPLASH! combines everything you’ve come to love about family circus entertainment with astonishing water stunts and aerial speciality acts.

On April 17, 1998, the first Russian Water Circus was performed under the name ‘Circus on Water’.

Since then, the creative team has continually developed new acts and shows which captivate and enthral families across the world. Over the past 19 years, the ‘Circus on Water’ team has toured Russia, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Oman, Lithuania, UAE and China.

The show has not toured internationally since a major renovation in 2013 which piqued the interest of international producer Harry Weber and local producer Matthew Cook.

“Harry and I share a passion for circus, and when we decided that we wanted to work together, we looked for a show that would be so different to anything presented in South Africa before,” says Cook. “We wanted to push the boundaries of circus and offer something unique. When we came across ‘Circus on Water’ there was no doubt that we had to bring the show to South Africa.”

Over the last 6 months, teams in South Africa, New Zealand and Russia have been working on SPLASH! – The Water Circus, ensuring that only the most spectacular acts are seen on the South African tour.

“We have selected the best acts to tour South Africa,” states Weber, “and added some extreme acts which we know the South African audiences will love. The show along with all the technical and artistic elements which we have incorporated is what will make SPLASH! a huge success”.

After seeing the spectacular water circus in Russia, SPLASH! – The Water Circus was negotiated for a South African tour commencing in August 2017.

Local producer - Matthew Cook

As a young magician Matthew nurtured his talents at the College of Magic in Cape Town, where he graduated with his Silver Medallion in 2001. Matthew won the South African Magic Championships in 1999 with a breath-taking stage illusion show which started his full-time career in entertainment.

In 2007 he joined the team at Gold Reef City as a Production Manager for the opening of The Lyric and the South African premiere of the musical Hairspray.

Since 2012, Matthew has managed the Entertainment and Event departments of 3 of the biggest casinos in South Africa and has gained extensive experience in large scale concerts, shows and tours. In early 2017, Matthew decided that it was time to start a new chapter and become more active as a creative director and producer of live entertainment and shows.

After 6 months of planning, Matthew is thrilled to announce the South African tour of SPLASH!

Q: What is a water circus?

A: Imagine a traditional circus show, with the added element of being performed in a specially designed water pool. The addition of the pool opens many opportunities to incorporate new acts never seen in a traditional circus show.

Q: But isn’t there a national drought right now?

A: You’re right, there is. That’s why we’ve taken special measures to ensure that our water is suitably sourced and recycled over the shows for maximum water conservation.

Q: What acts will I see?

A: We’ve sourced the best talent all the way from Russia, Brazil and the USA to perform their amazing feats from all circus disciplines including aerial acrobatics, death-defying stunts, and heart-warming comedy – all with a water twist. Synchronised swimmers and fountain displays add to the magic and take the concept of circus to new heights.

Q: Will I get wet?

A: Our pool is quite contained, mostly to ensure that no water is wasted. However this is a circus after all and some splashing is bound to happen.

Q: Will there be food and drink on sale at the show?

A: Yes, we have fully stocked concession stands, packed with popcorn, drinks, treats, and even some trinkets.
